With the 2nd wave of coronavirus crashing and smashing everything in this way, many parts of the country are going for lockdown, the ultimate hope to slow down the spread of the pandemic. While outdoor activities are coming to a halt, there are plenty of things that you can pursue to control stress and make the most of your time at home during lockdown.
If you are stressed out or feeling scared, you are not alone. Every other day we are hearing of someone testing positive, or in a critical condition, or even passing away. Processing all this news on a daily basis takes a serious toll on our physical as well as mental health. To keep ourselves sane in these insane times we need to keep ourselves busy doing the things that make us happy.
The previous year, in 2020 we saw people getting creative with literally everything. From cooking to gardening, from arts and crafts to music and dance, we saw people turn to their old hobbies or take up new ones to make the most of the time at home during lockdown. While admittedly this time the coronavirus situation is way more serious but we need to keep calm more than ever.
While meditation is not everyone's cup of tea, there are many other types of activities that are therapeutic in nature. Painting, paper quilling, making newspaper collages, reading books, redesigning old clothes and so many more…
Here are 5 fun things to do to control your stress and make the most of your time at home during lockdown.
Painting
Let me make it clear not everyone is Picasso and there is no pressure to become one. When children paint it is not necessarily the best or actual representation of the object. They simply draw and color it and are happy with whatever the outcome is.
The point is to have fun with painting. Play with colors. Create whatever you can, whatever comes to your mind. There is no pressure of proving anything to anyone. You can dip your palms in color and repaint your wall even. It's about you. How it makes you feel and how much you enjoy doing it.
Paper crafts & Origami
Do you remember those art and craft classes from your schooldays? Well, it is the perfect time to relive those. Use old newspapers or whatever rough paper you can find and get started. You can also make it a fun activity by asking your siblings or family members to join.
Origami is the Japanese art of folding papers. It is quite fascinating. You can make various things by assembling origami pieces. You can make wind chimes, wall hangings and so many more. If you want some more ideas, check out some tutorial videos on youtube.
Redesigning old clothes
Social media, especially Instagram today is full of fashion influencers with their experimental clothing. If you have tons of old clothes lying around and plenty of time in hand, it's time to get creative. For example, you can make a small flower from your old scarf and sew it into a hat.
If you need some extra push, check out some youtube videos. You'll get so many ideas to begin with. You can probably create over 20 types of dresses with a single scarf. You can also try making cosplay costumes for the next Comicon visit. Create and click Insta-worthy photos in your recycled old clothing to shine on.
Room makeover
There are endless possibilities with this option. From simply changing the bedsheet to moving your bed or shelf to the other corner of the room there are numerous ways in which you can use your time to give your room a makeover.
Have an old glass bottle lying around? Paint it and put some paper flowers in it. Painted something nice a long time ago? Frame it and hang it on the wall or keep on your work desk. Fairy lights lying around. You don't need to wait for Diwali. Put them up. Make a cozy corner, your space, where you can unwind and relax.
Fun Workout
The best way to burst your stress is to pump that adrenalin. What can be better than playing your favorite music and dancing to your heart’s content? Just move your body and sweat it out.
If you want to get more serious, start Zumba or aerobics. Even if you are working out, play some music. Music makes things much better, don’t you agree?
Instead of thinking of this lockdown as a hindrance, try turning it into one of the most productive phases. There is no competition. You do whatever is possible at your own pace. Being happy and at peace is the main objective.
Reconnect with yourself. Limit your news time. Keep yourself busy doing the things that you like. Try to follow a routine. You can start with small things and continue it daily. For example, fix a time to water your plants, set aside 30 mins every day for reading books. When you surround yourself with a sense of familiarity following a daily routine that you like, things will get much easier.
